For Tim's and my first anniversary we decided to wait until the end of the month to really celebrate it because we were going to go to LA for my best friend Jerri's wedding. Well...the trip was awesome (until the last night). We stayed at a World Mark timeshare in St. George on the way down to LA. Then spent a night in a nice Double Tree hotel in LA (LOVE their cookies!). Jerri's wedding was awesome and so great. Her reception that night was in her hometown of Bakersfield. We decided to stay the last couple days in Bakersfield. Well...that was a mistake. I've heard a lot about Bakersfield (not very much of it good) and apart from the awesome people (Jerr and her family) I must agree with the majority of what I'd heard.
Case and point-the creepy hotel.
Never stay at the Travel Lodge in Bakersfield.
You have been warned.
We booked a room online at the Bakersfield Travel Lodge. It had great ratings and good pictures online. Well when we showed up late that night after the reception-this is what we found.
A creepy, pink hotel from Hell.
Everything was musky, dusty, and eerily pink. The TV was just static, there was a big crack under the hallway door so you could see the light coming from the hallway-not to mention hear everything from the hallway and both neighbors. All the lighting fixtures were plastic and dusty, and I thought those drapes above the bed may have covered up a crime scene or killed someone at some point.
Unfortunately, because it was late, Tim and I ended up staying there that first night, although we only touched the sheets (thankfully/hopefully clean) and then cut our vacation a day short and just drove home to Utah. It was a fun trip overall...just ended on a weird note with this hotel. We just wanted to get back to our own home and our own bed so much. Chalk it up to a crazy/now kind of funny adventure. Maybe next year we'll have more success :-D
