I have a new blog addiction. It's Better After, a before and after shot blog. It is wonderful! And it has so many great ideas on how to redo things. I've decided to try and do my own little before and after.
Tim and I bought a rocking chair at DI for $20 a few months back when we moved into the Orem house because we really didn't have any furniture to begin with. I thought it was a pretty good deal, but the cushions were an old, musky smelling, green material. Not cute at all. So...I bought some fabric with my mom, called my sister Emma to see the best way to reupholster something, and Wallah! This is what I have so far.
I have a before pictures on Tim's camera, so I'll add that later. I still need to do a couple adjustments, sew the bottoms up and the ties for the cushions. I'm also planning on painting the frame of the rocking share somehow...not sure yet but it'll be up.
I have a dilemma on the back cushion. Before it had a big upside down U seem down the middle of the cushion. The green material had actually been sewn trough the 3" thick foam pad....I know that won't fit through my sewing machine. Does anyone know any tricks or ideas on how I should do that?
Looks cute Megs!
ReplyDeleteYou can buy an upholstery needle (really long) and sew tufts into it. Or, to step it up a notch, you can buy a button making kit, make buttons to match and sew those into the tufts.
I thought about the buttons idea, but Tim said then they'd press into your back...Thank you though! That's what I needed to know!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute Megan! Love the fabric choice! I don't know how dense the padding is, but if it's spongy, I might still try to use the machine. (just flatten it to get it under and go slowly) But I'm in no way a professional and am probably too risky with my machines! :) Can't wait to see the after after shot ;)
