Out of the Mouths of Babes

Tim and I have been in our current ward since January.  Soon after we moved into the ward we received callings.  Tim was called to teach Sunday school to the 16 and 17 year olds and I was called into Sunbeams.  I'll be honest, I wasn't very excited at first.  I kept thinking of how I'd never meet anyone in our ward because 1. we were new, and 2. I was now in Primary.  Ah-I know...that sounds SO bad.  I love kids.  Really I do.  I was just bummed at first because I have a full-time job and church was going to be a nice break for me, and after getting my calling, church kind of became hard work.  And I really love Relief Soceity.

For the first few months I had the wrong attitude about it.  I mean I tried hard but right after church I'd grab Tim because I was exhausted (...?) and go home and rest.  Blahblahblahblahblah...long of the short is I'm trying to change my attitude and doing a lot better/enjoying my calling a lot now.

A couple things that have helped me to really enjoy my calling are to love my children as individuals, and to find bright spots during primary.  The main bright points that I have come across are just funny things my kids say.  So I thought I'd share some with you incase you need some cheering up today.

1. When giving a lesson on forgiveness and telling the story of Joseph and how his brothers sold him into slavery one of my little boys says "Girls can be slaves".  He's 4 so I gave him a break and just cracked a quick smile...his sisters will teach him.

After a lesson on being thankful for food and clothing ALL of the kids had to go to the bathroom. These next few gems are sort of bathroom humor...but seriously...hilarious.

(Little girl-I'm going to try and type the cute way she talks)  "Sumti whe I go potty I almo don make it, but then i wun an i alway make it."

Me to little boy: "So did you like trying all those yummy fruits and vegetables?" "Yeah, they were really good."  "What was your favorite one?" "Mac N Cheese."

Now...remember this was when I was taking them all the bathroom.  I would stand outside the stall and talk to them while they did their business.

Little Boy "I can pee standing up!!! .............AND sitting down.....and I poop sitting down.  I'm a really big boy now!"

I hope these can make you smile like they did for me.  Kids can say such funny things.  I'm going to try and write them down so I can keep them for days when I need an extra laugh.

  1. Megs, as a member of the Primary Presidency and a mom of a Sunbeam, let me just tell you how valuable you are to your ward. You teaching your class and doing such a wonderful job at it helps out those moms who those 2 hours of church are their break for the week.
